ABOUT THE ARTIST: Fealing Lin lives in California but was born in Taiwan. She teaches classes and workshops across the country. Her favorite place to paint is Italy. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America and the Watercolor West. Her work has won numerous awards in national and international shows and has appeared in many magazines including Watercolor Artist, International Artist and Splash (Vol 9,10,11,12). Regarding her portraits Fealing stated “I want viewers to spend time studying my figures and portraits, wondering who my subjects are and what are their stories. I consider a work a success if it’s fresh and painterly, it expresses my feelings about the subject and the design of the space is unique.”
COURSE CONTENT: Fealing will demonstrate her process for layering big brushstrokes, transparent glazes and interesting shapes to capture the spirit of her subjects. Sticking to light values and transparent colors, she builds up the figure with a series of glazes and overlapping shapes, keeping brushstrokes to a minimum in order to prevent the painting from looking overworked. With a fluidity of colors, Fealing combines impressionistic strokes and semi-abstract techniques to elicit life and movement in her portraits. Her web site is fealingwatercolor.com
