Catherine Hearding has more than 40 years of experience painting in watercolor. She earned a BA degree in zoology and botany from the University of Montana (1974). Catherine designed and marketed a line of watercolor notecards from 1974 until 1990. In the 1990s, Catherine’s focus shifted to painting the landscape and she began exhibiting her paintings locally in 2001. In 2006, she entered her first national exhibition and has since won numerous regional and national awards, including recently, the High Winds Medal from the American Watercolor Society.

Catherine is a signature member in the American Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor Honor Society, Minnesota Watercolor Society and several others. She is a past president of the Minnesota Watercolor Society. She was recently featured in an article in the International Artist magazine (Dec-Jan 2021), and had a painting included in the 2018 Watercolor Missouri International Exhibition in Qingdao, China.

Since 2004, Catherine has maintained a busy teaching schedule, offering both weekly local classes and national workshops Her class offerings focus on landscape painting, plein air painting, composition, and color theory, as well as basic watercolor technique. She works from her home studio in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
