About The Artist |
|
My painting process involves using experimental methods and non-traditional techniques to create abstract and non-representational designs emphasizing color and texture. I often begin a painting in a random way and then work intuitively to bring a sense of order to the unplanned composition. This process allows the freedom of expression I desire and sets up the artistic and technical challenge I need to keep me interested in completing the work. A background in quilt making has also influenced my art. Geometric shapes are an integral part of many of my painting compositions. My inspiration comes from the world around me including the shapes, colors and patterns found in nature and in common everyday objects. Current events often prompt the theme or title of a painting. For me, painting is a means of self-discovery which sometimes reveals personal responses to specific subjects or situations about which I had been previously unaware. |
