From our President: “Minnesota Watercolor Society is a dynamic organization providing its members with a wide variety of events and opportunities. It is an excellent source of information for the artist, novice to professional, while being an abundant and continuous source of support and encouragement. And best of all . . . it’s full of friends.”

Who We Are: With over 350 members, the Minnesota Watercolor Society (MNWS) is one of the largest associations of watercolor artists in the mid-West. Since its inception in 1983, MNWS membership has mushroomed with artists looking for educational information, support and encouragement. Monthly meetings, a newsletter, workshops, demonstrations, “paintouts” and exhibits provide a wealth of opportunities for artists to learn and grow. The Society also maintains an excellent library of videotapes and books for member use. Any artist, from beginner to advanced, is welcome to join the supportive environment of the Minnesota Watercolor Society.
Meetings: MNWS monthly meetings are held September through May. Informative and educational, programs include demonstrations by members or guest artists, critiques, discussions, slide shows and more. Meetings are held at 7pm on the second Thursday of the month at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Boulevard, Edina, MN. For the current schedule, click here
Workshops: The Society sponsors 4-day, 5-day and weekend workshops with regionally and nationally known artists. Members receive a reduce rate on workshop fees.
Shows: The MNWS sponsors two one-month-long exhibitions each year in fall and spring. One is juried and one is open to all members.
Newsletter: Our newsletter, BrushStrokes, is published 6 times per year. BrushStrokes provides news and views about members, exhibits, meetings, workshops, painting tips, book reviews and more. Send letters to the editor or art-related stories via e-mail to brushstrokeseditor@minnesotawatercolors.com or via postal mail to MNWS Brush Strokes Editor, 10910 Quebec Ave S. Bloomington MN 55438
History of the Minnesota Watercolor Society: In July 1982, during a social gathering of watercolor painters held in an artist’s home, an organization for local watercolor artists was born. All agreed there was a need to bring together watercolor artists to share ideas, exhibit artwork, sponsor demonstrations and learn as much as possible about the medium. Two energetic women, Jeanette Stordahl and Jeanne Emrich founded the Twin Cities Watercolor Society with 47 excited members attending the very first meeting in January of 1983. By September of that year, the group numbered over 102. Over the next fifteen years membership in TCWS grew steadily, as did the mission of the organization, to support and ever-widening community of artists. In 1998, the Twin Cities Watercolor Society became the Minnesota Watercolor Society.
