Karen Knutson
Illusionary Watercolor Workshop - Learn to create mystery and
depth in a painting
January 19-20, 2013

Dates:
January 19, 2013 (Saturday, 9:00 – 4:00)
January 20, 2013
(Sunday, 12:00 – 5:00)
Instructor:
Karen Knutson
Illusionary painting techniques will be the focus of this
watercolor workshop. Students will learn how to make their subjects
look as if you can see through them. Also, they will learn how to
use pure transparent watercolor washes and create glowing colors.
They will pick a simple subject and paint it in a totally different
way, using good design and transparent glazes to create depth and
mystery, as if the subjects are "ghost-like".
Karen likes to make her workshops fun, but also teaches a strong
sense of design. Check out her website,
www.karenknutson.com or her blog,

Nancy Carney

Nancy Patrick Carney, Minneapolis artist, will be presenting a
weekend workshop titled "FIGURES 4 WAYS" on
March 23 & 24, 2013 at the Hopkins
Center for the Arts.
March 23, 2013 (Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM)
March 24, 2013 (Sunday, 12 noon to 5:00 PM)
Nancy will show you how to have fun painting imaginative,
expressive clothed figures in a way to that adds excitement and
perspective to your paintings. Day one will concentrate on fun
and funky candid contour figures that can be mixed and matched
and repeated in a watercolor painting. Then we will move on to
simple gestural figures using expressive linear drawings and
watercolor. The third technique builds upon the first two as we
use collage to construct simple clothed figures with watercolor
and colored art papers. Then, with more confidence, you are
ready to design your own composition with multiple figures,
using your choice of materials. Nancy stresses the elements and
principles of design and a variety of compositional styles. The
principles of perspective are also very important to this
figure painting class.
Nancy creates images that are colorful, quirky, playful
expressions of 21st century life. You can see more of her work

layer the light. Working from your own photos and sketches, she

result. New to this workshop is a segment on finishing. Students
