Brief Bio from the Artist. “My personal work is informed and inspired by forms found in nature. I consider and experience the foundations of the earth as symbolic of the ‘grounding’ of spirit. Representation is distilled to form, movement, essence. The process is a dance between concept and emotion.”

Monica teaches at the University of Minnesota in the College of Design. She has taught courses in watercolor, drawing, painting, illustration, color theory, design, visual presentation and art history for St. Paul College of Visual Arts, St. Cloud State University, St. Catherine University and others. Her teaching strength lies in reaching students at different levels and styles, and stimulating exploration of formal, technical and conceptual issues. She teaches through demonstrations, assignments, and critiques.

In May 2019, she will lead university students to Greece for her course, Capturing Greece: Color, Light, and Form. This will be her tenth time leading a University of Minnesota course abroad. Others include multiples of the same as well as of: Japanese Design and Aesthetics, Impressionism in Paris and Southern France. She is developing adult opportunities to paint in both Southern France and Greece and will lead her fourth Creative Immersion Retreat (Mexico) in January 2020.

She has been Lead Scenic Artist for The Guthrie Theater and has additionally been involved with design or execution of work for such organizations as Joffrey Ballet, Paisley Park, Warner Brothers, Disney/Buena Vista, Dayton’s, Minnesota Opera, Children's Theatre Company, HSC Scenic Services, Minnesota Historical Society, Dunn County Historical Society, Lorie Line Music and others.

She has a B.A. in Fine Arts from Principia College, an M.A. in Painting from St.Cloud State University and an M.F.A. in Visual Studies from Clemson University. Her media include watercolor, acrylic, woodcut, and lithography. Her work is in collections throughout the United States, including: Alaska Continental Bank, General Mills, Marathon Oil (Texas), Medtronic, Hurley Hospital (Michigan).

Her studio is in the Northrup King Building, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
